Sunshine opened for the season on Remembrance Day, Nov. 11.
There are some amazing pre-season conditions, the snow pack is already more than half-a-metre at Sunshine Village, and getting better by the day. Check out their website to watch the progress.
This makes one of the earliest openings in North America for a resort that relies on almost entirely natural snow, and three days earlier than last year.
The Strawberry, Standish and WaWa lifts open Wednesday, and more lifts are expected to be in operation by the weekend. Guests are advised to ski and ride with care, because terrain will be somewhat limited and there may be some natural unmarked hazards. Some lifts may open later than 9 a.m. to allow for avalanche control work and safety marking.
Early season discounts apply, with Wednesday's rate at $55.95, plus GST.
Sunshine's hard-working on-mountain crew is working flat out, running huge snow cats to pack the snow. For the latest snow report including views from the live webcams please visit skibanff.com. You can also sign up for automatic snow dump alerts, if you click the link on the Snow Report page.
There is even more excitement this year at Sunshine, with the opening of the new wing of the luxurious Sunshine Mountain Lodge, Banff's only ski-in, ski-out hotel. Early season discounts include $30-per-guest food vouchers, and, as always, prices include next day skiing. Some restrictions apply. Please call 1-87-SKI-BANFF to book your stay.
Sunshine Marmot Cards are on sale.
Cardholders ski or ride for free on their 1st, 4th, and 7th days while enjoying up to $26 off regular ticket prices on all other visits. Sunshine Marmot Cards cost $79.95 and are available online at skibanff.com (mailed out), at Canada Safeway's Alberta and Saskatchewan locations, and participating retailers.
